Overview of the hike

The Peace Pagoda half-day hike is a popular hike that takes you to the World Peace Pagoda (commonly known as Pokhara Shanti Stupa). The hike offers a blend of natural beauty, cultural immersion, and panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks and lush green vegetation.

A half-day hike to Shanti Stupa Pokhara has two popular routes. One through Raniban Forest involves hiking through dense vegetation and partially clear paths in Raniban Forest to the destination and returning via the same route. This is the most popular one.

The other route options include crossing the Phewa Lake by boat and then hiking to the Pokhara Shanti Stupa. Then, you will return via the same route and end up crossing the lake by boat. Then, you will be dropped off at your desired location.

Several tourists know that the World Peace Pagoda is in Pokhara, but they lack an exact location. Therefore, the Shanti stupa pokhara location is in Anadu Hill in Pokhara, Nepal. Shanti stupa altitude is approximately 1,100 meters above mean sea level.

The peace pagoda half day hike distance is approximately 5–6 km of round trip. Therefore, the hike can be called an easy hike. While some people who rarely walk and often use vehicles to travel somewhere may find it a little difficult.

On the way to the hike, you will get to see the lush green vegetation and stunning vistas of the Himalayan peak. You may encounter various birds and wildlife, including deer, monkeys, and royal Bengal tigers, while hiking through Raniban Forest.

The peace pagoda half day hike cost may vary depending on the type of package you choose. There are various types of packages, like the Basic Half-Day Tour ($36.35 per adult), the Private Hiking Tour ($50 per person), and the Comprehensive Package ($70 to $100). Those cost differences are due to the cost inclusions and exclusions.

We have developed a Peace Pagoda half-day hike itinerary by combining both route options. This Peace Pagoda half-day hike 2025/2026 package aims to provide thrills and adventure along with a refreshing boat ride and cultural visits.

Major Highlights of the hike

  • The Shanti Stupa (World Peace Pagoda)

The history of the stupa is amazing. After meeting Mahatma Gandhi in 1931, a Japanese monk dedicated his life to promoting peace and built the pagoda. The construction of the stupa was part of a global initiative to create peaceful monuments, and the official construction began in 1973.

The stupa is designed in the traditional pagoda style. It has a whitewashed exterior with a rounded shape and resembles an overturned alms bowl. It features four important statues of Buddha. Near the pagoda, there is a prayer hall called Dhamma Hall. The peace pagoda opening hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily. There is no entry fee to visit the Shanti stupa.
