Overview

The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is an elongated version of the classic Langtang Valley Trek. The trek ascends to the sacred Gosaikunda Lake (4,380 m) and makes the journey a little more adventurous and challenging. In another way, it is the combination of Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Trek.

Located in the north of Kathmandu Valley, the Langtang region is one of the most beautiful and famous trekking regions in Nepal. The region boasts less-crowded trekking trails, verdant forests, green pastures, abundant flora and fauna, rich Tibetan culture, and breathtaking landscapes.

Langtang Gosaikunda Trek route has quick access from Kathmandu. You can reach the starting point of the trek within a few hours of driving from Kathmandu. Langtang Gosaikunda trek distance is approximately 117 km. The trail moves along the Bhote Koshi River and climbs to Langtang Valley to the Gosaikunda Lake. You will be trekking through dense forests of rhododendron, pine, oak, juniper, and many others, crossing thrilling suspension bridges, and visiting many quaint mountain villages inhabited by Tamangs & Sherpas.

The Tamangs here are believed to be the descendants of Tibetans. Most of their culture, traditions, and practices are similar to those of Tibetans. During the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek, you will alsocome across ancient monasteries, prayer wheels, mani walls, and colorful prayer flags. Kyanjin Gompa (3,830 m) and Shin Gompa (3,300 m) are the two main gompas you will visit on the route. Likewise, the Gosaikunda Lake adds more value to the religious and cultural aspects of Langtang Gosaikunda Trekking.

You will get to see spectacular views of snow-clustered mountains like Ganesh Himal (7,422 m), Langtang Lirung (7,245 m), Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m), Mt. Annapurna (8,091 m), Mt. Shishapangma (8,013 m), and many others through the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek. However, the views from Tserko Ri and Laurebina Pass are exceptional. As most of the trail goes through Langtang National Park, you may also see wildlife like mountain goats, langur monkeys, yaks, Himalayan black bears, wild boar, musk deer, leopards, red pandas, and a range of birds on the way.

Essential Info

Langtang Gosaikunda Trek difficulty and terrain

Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is more difficult than the classic Langtang Valley Trek. The route we will be following during the trek has a fair share of steep ascents and descents. You will be crossing landslide-prone areas and walking on rugged paths. Likewise, you have to walk 6 to 7 hours a day, which demands strong stamina and physical fitness.

The trek takes you above 4,000 meters. With the increase in elevation, the air will get thin, and the walk will become naturally exhausting. Moreover, the remoteness of the region may create extra difficulties for trekkers who cannot adjust to the mountain lifestyle.

You also have to be careful of altitude sickness, which often happens on high-altitude ventures. Even though our Langtang Gosaikunda Trek itinerary has ample acclimatization days, you still have to be careful of a few things to avoid altitude sickness.

Langtang Gosaikunda Trek permit

The Langtang Gosaikunda trek goes through Langtang National Park. You have to take the Langtang National Park entry permit along with the local area permit to go on this trek. You can get a Langtang National Park entry permit from the Nepal Tourism Board, Kathmandu, or at the entry point in Dhunche.

  • Langtang National Park entry permit cost for SAARC countries (per person): NPR 1,500 + 13% VAT; totaling NRP 1,695, approximately USD 17
  • Langtang National Park entry permit cost for other countries (per person): NPR 3,000 + 13% VAT; totaling NRP 3,390, approximately USD 34

*Note: Kids below the age of ten do not need any permit to trek in the Langtang region

Best time to go on Langtang Gosaikunda Trek

Spring (March to April) and autumn (October to November) are the best times of the year to go on Langtang Gosaikunda Trekking. These two seasons have the most stable weather and moderate climate, which is perfect for trekking in the Himalayas. The temperature ranges between 10°C and 15°C (50°F and 59°F). You may feel cold at night and in the morning.

The views are clear and fantastic in these months. Likewise, spring welcomes hundreds of flowers, whereas autumn marks the beginning of the biggest festivals in Nepal. The trails can be easily navigated with the help of the Langtang Gosaikunda trek map.

Food & Accommodation during Langtang Gosaikunda Trek

The accommodation during the Langtang Gosaikunda Trekking will be a guesthouse or teahouse. You will get a comfortable bed in which to spend the night. The rooms are basic with twin-sharing beds. If you need a single room, then do let us know in advance.

We offer three meals a day during the trek. The meals will consist of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can get toast, eggs, porridge, pancakes, soup, oats, sandwiches, etc. Similarly, for lunch & dinner, there will be rice, curries, noodles, spaghetti, macaroni, momo, pizza, steak, Tibetan bread, thukpa, veggies, mashed potatoes, etc

High Altitude Sickness

The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is a once-in-a-lifetime memory for adventure lovers. Trekking in the Himalayas brings many obstacles, and one of them is high-altitude sickness. You need to drink water to stay hydrated and eat energy bars, chocolate, and nuts while trekking to boost your energy. If you experience any of these symptoms, like nausea, fatigue, sleep disorders, or insomnia, then you are more susceptible to altitude sickness.

You need to report this to your trekking leaders and guide them as soon as possible, or descend downward and rest for a while in the shadow of trees. We recommend ginger soup, as it protects you from colds and avoids altitude sickness. Bring Diamox in case you suffer from altitude sickness. If you suffer from a severe case, you will be taken to the hospital via helicopter, so you must have medical insurance that will cover the helicopter rescue.

 Trekking Grade

You will reach an altitude of 5,000 meters while trekking on the Langtang Gosaikunda trek. This trek takes you right into the mountain with rugged terrain and slippery uphill and downhill paths. This trekking grade is considered moderately difficult as you have to reach an altitude of up to 5,000 m.

You have to walk more than 6 hours a day to complete the trek. Some regular exercise and practicing walking uphill and downhill will help you adapt while trekking in the Langtang region.

Weather

The weather fluctuation is more common in higher-altitude regions like the Langtang Gosaikunda trek. The peak season for the Langtang Gosaikunda trek is in spring, which starts from mid-September to November and in autumn, which starts from the beginning of March until the end of May. The mornings are bright and clear, while in the afternoon, you may see cloud formations. The clear, bright skies at night are perfect for star gazing with your partner or loved ones.

Transportation

We will start transporting you as soon as you step into the Kathmandu valley. At first, our representative will pick you up at Tribhuwan International Airport and drop you off at your hotel in a private bus or taxi. Then, we will visit the UNESCO heritage site located in the Kathmandu Valley via private taxi.

We will take you to Syabrubesi, Rasuwa which takes around 5-7 hours via public bus, and return to Kathmandu similarly. If you are uncomfortable traveling by public bus, we can arrange a private jeep or bus for your comfort. For those travelers who want to explore Langtang Gosaikunda and have limited time, we can arrange a helicopter tour of the valley.

Electricity, Telephone, and Internet

Langtang Gosaikunda trek is a remote area of the Himalayas. Most of the hotel counters provide internet passwords to guests at an extra charge, while most of the hotels suggest enjoying nature instead of being engaged in the digital platform. They charge you an extra fee for charging your battery and mobile phone make sure to bring your data cable. you will get non-stop facility electricity in both Langtang Village and Kyanjin Gompa

The telephone network is available on the Langtang Gosaikunda trek if you have local SIMs like NTC and NCELL. The NTC has full network coverage in higher altitudes and you can also use the internet by buying a data pack.

Drinking Water

You can buy bottled water for drinking along the trail unless you reach the last village for the Langtang Gosaikunda trek. We suggest you bring your bottle and refill the water of your choice in hotel and tea houses to reduce plastic waste on the trekking trail. Sometimes you have to walk in a deep alpine forest where there are no tea houses. At that time, you need to use free-flowing water for drinking, so bring iodine or a water-purifying medicine for safe drinking water.

Luggage & Bathroom Facility

While trekking in the Himalayas, a porter will carry your luggage, but you must carry your backpack by yourself. The toilet and bathroom facilities in the city area come in an attached room. As soon as you start your hike, most of the tea houses have common bathrooms for all the guests but some teahouses and lodges provide rooms with attached bathrooms for an extra charge.

 Group Leader and Crew

We, Mystic Adventure Holiday, provide a certified and experienced guide along with local Sherpa staff. If we have more than 8 guests for the Langtang Gosaikunda trek, we will arrange for a porter to carry your luggage, where 1 porter will carry the bags of 2 guests.

Trekking Equipment

All the necessary equipment and gear for trekking in the Langtang Gosaikunda trek are available at reasonable rates in the streets of Thamel. So, we advise you to buy the gear here, which will help you avoid extra costs for heavy luggage on the airfare.

Customize Itineraries and Trip Extensions

The Langtang Gosaikunda trek itinerary can be customized, and trips can be extended further based on your preferences and fitness level. The customization of the trek itinerary means extra days for acclimatization days, side trips to nearby landmarks, and so on.

The trip extensions of the Langtang Gosaikunda trek include visiting the nearby villages, monasteries, or viewpoints, or even extending your trek to include other destinations. As a mystic adventure representative, we will organize, customize, and extend your trekking journey through the Himalayas.
