The trail ascends through lush forests and villages like Hille (1,495 m) and Tikhedhunga (1,570 m). 

From Ulleri, you will trek enjoying excellent mountain views to Ghorepani (2,874 m) village surrounded by rhododendron forests. The next day, you will hike to Poon Hill (3,210 m) to witness a gorgeous sunrise and snow-capped mountains. Further, passing by Deurali and Tatopani, you will descend to the beautiful Ghandruk (2,012 m) village. The last village will be Nayapul, and you will drive back to Kathmandu via Pokhara.

Land at the Kathmandu airport, where you will be welcomed by our airport representatives. He will escort you to the hotel and help you in check-in. You are free to explore the surroundings. Meet other team members over a welcome dinner organized by the company in the evening.

Today, you will drive to another city called Pokhara. This is loved by travelers for its tranquility in the bustle. The drive goes along a well-made highway that offers heart-warming scenery of green hills, rivers, terraced fields, and snow-capped mountains. Spend the evening strolling on the Lakeside market and enjoying views from Phewa Lake.

Drive to Nayapul after having breakfast early in the morning. The drive offers countryside views. From Nayapul, you will begin trekking, following lush forests and terraced fields. The route ascends along a river. You will further continue trekking along the north bank of the Bhurung Khola and ascend to Hille (1,495 m). From here, the trail keeps ascending towards Tikhedhunga (1,570 m) and steeply climbs to Ulleri (2,073 m).

Leaving Ullier behind, you will gradually ascend through lovely forests of rhododendron to Nanghethani (2,460 m). View of Mt. Fishtail, Mt. Annapurna, and Mt. Hiunchuli makes the walk heavenly. Further, you will walk for an hour to reach Ghorepani village. This village will welcome you with beautiful landscape and mountain views.

You will wake up early in the morning to witness the glorious sunrise from Poon Hill. The trial from Ghorepani follows a steep, rocky path and ascends to Poon Hill viewpoint. You can see breathtaking views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Nilgiri, Mt. Fishtail, Mt. Hiunchuli, Tukuche Peak, and many others.

Later, you will trek through rhododendron and oak forests to Deurali (2,960 m). The trail then passes by Ghorepani and descends to Tatopani. You will keep trekking through dense forests and small settlement areas and cross the northside of the stream. Further, passing by Bhurung Khola, you will ascend through a steep forested path and reach Tadapani (2,710 m).

After having breakfast, begin the day trekking through lush forests. The trail descends and passes by remote villages until you reach Nayapul. From here, you will drive to Pokhara. Spend the evening enjoying the sunset at Phewa Lake and exploring the vibrant Lakeside market.

After having breakfast, you will drive back to Kathmandu. The drive will offer you superb views of lush green hills, rivers, and terraced fields. Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek terrain & difficulty 

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is an easy trek in the lower part of the Annapurna region. The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek route goes through a series of stone staircases and dense forests. There are a few steep and rugged parts along the trail that only add the thrill of a challenge in the journey.

Frankly, anyone can do Poon Hill Trek whether you are young or old. Moreover, no trekking or hiking experience is needed. The trail ascends a little above 3,000 meters, which will be okay for your body because our itinerary has a steady gain in elevation. You do need to walk 5 to6 hours a day, therefore good health and fitness are important.

The chances of altitude sickness are quite low. Altitude sickness is a high elevation illness that travelers usually face if their body sees a sudden change in altitude and does not acclimatize. You can read more about altitude sickness here.
 

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek permit

Poonhill trekking needs two permits, Annapurna Conservation Permit (ACAP) and TIMS Card. While trekking with us, we will obtain the permit for you in advance. The trekkers do not have to be present in the government office to get these permits. All we need is one photo and a couple of other documents to get these two permits for you. 

Annapurna Conservation Permit (ACAP) cost: Nrs. 3000, per person

TIMS Card cost while trekking with an agency: Nrs. 1000, per person

TIMS Card cost for independent trekkers: Nrs. 2000, per person


*Note: If you are an independent trekker, then you can get these permits at Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Exhibition Road, Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu, or Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Dam Side, Pokhara.


Best time to go on Poon Hill Trek

The best time to do Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek 8 Days is from March to April and October to November. These months have the most beautiful trekking route bloomed with gorgeous rhododendrons and many other colorful flowers. 

The climate is neither too hot nor too cold, which makes the walk pleasant, and the crystal clear sky with dominating panoramas of the snow-capped mountains are just blissful.

The temperature ranges between 18°C to 5°C. You may feel colder in the morning and night. The weather remains stable most of the time, so no need to worry about delays or anything.

Winter, December to February is another great time for Poon Hill Trek. You have to look out for the weather, and the climate is very cold. However,  the snow-covered trail and the breathtaking views of the mountains on clear days are impeccable. 


Food & Accommodation during Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

You will stay overnight in the lodge during the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking. The lodges have basic facilities, and you can get a shared or single room as per your wish. Shared rooms are on the affordable side. The rooms will be small with a private washroom. You can get WiFi and hot shower service, but some lodges may ask for a few extra bucks for the service. 

As the trail explores the lower part of the region, you will get many services, including a range of meal options. Our trek package has three meals a day during the trek. You can choose from the menu of the lodge. 

Options like rice, lentil soup, fried veggies, curries, eggs, momo, burger, sandwich, pizza, mashed potato, steak, thenduk, thukpa, noodles, etc, are seen as the menu course. Whereas, for breakfast, you can get oatmeal, muesli, toast, soup, porridge, chapati, sausage, tea, coffee, etc. 


Tips to make the journey smooth

  • Properly check all the clothing and gear before the beginning of the trek.

  • Pack a few warm pieces too to keep yourself warm at night and morning.

  • Withdraw extra cash in Kathmandu or Pokhara to use while trekking. You may want to buy additional beverages and snacks while trekking, which is not covered in the package cost. There's no ATM on the trekking route.

  • Electricity is available in all the lodges to charge your devices. You may have to pay a few extra bucks to use the service. Extra batteries or a solar charger will be useful.

  • You can get WiFi service in lodges along the route. Likewise, if you want to use the internet while walking, then carry a Nepali SIM with data. We will help you get a SIM if you want. Extra charge applies.

  • Do not buy plastic water bottles while trekking, it will cost you a ridiculous amount of money. Get a reusable water bottle and refill along the way.

  • Drink plenty of water and other fluids to keep yourself away from altitude sickness while trekking.

  • The locals are friendly. Interact with them and get to know their unique lifestyle. 

  • Respect the culture and practices of locals.

  • If you get confused about tipping, then follow this advice- USD 100 to guide & porter, USD 5 to tour guide, and USD 2 to driver (by each member of the group).
