Overview

The Everest Base Camp trek (shortly EBC)  with Island peak is one of the fascinating and adventurous journeys which combines two stunning aspects of trekking to the Everest Base Camp and climbing Island peak at the same time. This trip is suitable for those who are looking for an additional thrill in the regular Everest Base Camp trekking itinerary. Imja Tse peaks which are commonly known as Island peaks with an altitude of 6,189m are normally done with Everest Base Camp with very little technical mountaineering skills and aspects. Hence, the Island peak is one of the most popular choices among the 6000m in Nepal.

The 19 days trip begins after a short and scenic flight from Kathmandu to the world’s most extreme airport, Lukla Airport. The trail goes through lush green forests and picturesque villages to Phakding and Manjo. Furthermore, the trail gradually ascends through the Sagarmatha National Park to Namche Bazaar, a popular sherpa town in the heart of Khumbu. The trail passes through the Sherpa villages, and rhododendron forests to Tengboche and Pangboche before reaching the second phase of acclimatization in Dingboche. Before doing Island peak, we head towards the Gorakshep passing Lobuche, and reach Everest Base Camp. You can explore the Khumbu glacier, and panoramic views of mountains including Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Pumori, Nuptse, and many more stunning snowy peaks. Further, the trek ascends to the most popular viewpoint in Nepal, Kalapatthar for the gorgeous sunrise and sunset view.

After a must-visit trek in the Himalayas, you continue to get back to Dingboche village for the next challenge to summit Island peak. Finally, after Dingboche, we head towards the Island peak base camp via Chukkung village. At base camp, we organize pre-climbing training where you’ll get valuable input from our experienced climbing guide. This is a very important opportunity to enhance your climbing skills as well. At the same time, you can experience the majestic views of glaciers, snowy peaks, and amazing glaciers. Next, early morning, wake up and start ascending towards the Island peak summit and enjoy the astonishing view of the sunrise, mountains, and Khumbu valleys. In your journey, your climbing guide will be there in each and every obstacle and difficulty. At last, the Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak lets you experience the true beauty of nature with adventure.

We offer different Everest Base Camp Trek packages that you can check on our trekking in the Everest region section. Likewise, we offer genuine Everest Base Camp Trek costs without risking safety. Additional Info

EBC Trek & Island Peak Difficulty

Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing is a strenuous trek with a fair share of challenging steep ascends and descends. Mind you, descents are as difficult as ascents, so don't take it lightly and be careful on the track. You will be walking 6 to 7 hours a day at a minimum, therefore you have to be in good health and fitness.

The trail winds through dense forests and the region get remote with an increase in elevation. You have to walk in thin air before touching EBC and the summit of Island Peal which can get challenging for some trekkers. Along with that, you always have to look for altitude sickness and make sure you do not get any symptoms. You can learn more about altitude sickness here.

Permit for EBC Trek & Island Peak Climbing

After the decentralization, you no longer need a TIMS card to trek in the Everest region. Now, you will need Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit and Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit to trek to EBC along with the Island Peak summit permit.

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance permit cost: NPR 2000 per person

Sagarmatha National Park Entry permit cost: NPR 3000 per person

Island Peak Summit Permit cost: 250$ (during the spring season), 125$ (during Autumn season), and 70$ for the off-season.

You can get both of these permits from the Nepal Tourism Board office in Kathmandu or Monjo.

*Note: If you are trekking from Jiri, then you will need an extra permit called Gaurishankar Conservation Area permit, which costs 3000 per person.

Best time to go on EBC Trek & Island Peak Climbing

To enjoy the trek to its fullest, you have to trek in spring and autumn. Spring (March to April) and autumn (October to November) is the best time of the year to go on EBC trek and Island Peak Climbing. These seasons have moderate climates and stable weather.

The trail sees hundreds of flowers bloom in the spring. And autumn adds the warmth of festivity to the environment as the Nepalese celebrate their biggest festivals in this season. Trekking Everest Base Camp in winter is possible, but you have to be well prepared to face freezing cold and possible trail blockage. Monsoon is not a good time of the year to trek to the Everest region. However, with less expectation of mountains views and slippery trails, you can still trek during this season as well.

Food & Accommodation during EBC Trek & Island Peak Climbing

EBC Trek and Island Peak Climbing route are some of the developed trekking routes in the Himalayas, therefore you will get both luxury and budget-friendly accommodations. Our Everest Base Camp Trek package includes a lodge stay. The rooms will be small with limited furniture and a double bed. Likewise, the washroom will be shared/private depending upon the lodge.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be given during the trek. The food will be served as per the menu of the lodge. You can get dishes like rice, curries, momo, noodles, pasta, pizza, sandwich, soup, toast, eggs, meat, veggies, porridge, bakery items, tea, coffee, thukpa, etc.

Tips to make the journey smooth

  • Doble checks all the gears and clothing before embarking on the trek.
  • Carry a reusable water bottle and fill it in the lodge/tea shops along the route. It will save you a lot of money and also keep the environment clean.
  • You may not find ATMs beyond Namche Bazar, so withdraw enough cash to use further on the trail.
  • Do know that you may have to pay a few extra bucks to use services like WiFi, hot shower, and charging booth at some places.
  • Carry a Nepali SIM card to use cellular data on the way (network may not be stable all the time).
  • Carry extra batteries or a solar charger.
  • You can tip any amount you like to the crew members. To give you a general idea, this is what we recommend- USD 150 to porter & guide, USD 5 to the tour guide, and USD 2 to driver.
  • Always walk on the mountainside, especially when yaks and mules are passing by.
  • Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Hydration is the key to avoiding altitude sickness.
  • Always say Namaste to the locals touching both palms and bending little.
